J. Ross Tipton took the position of Jacksonville Police Department's
Chief of Police in 1956.
Chief Tipton's Alabama Police Academy photo. Note, the academy was
only two weeks long. I have been told this was on a two week police
seminar.

As a young man, Chief
Tipton loved boxing. I was unable to find anything more, but he must have
been fairly good because in this old newspaper clip it talks about him
fighting Bill Stone from Chicago.
Some
of the things Chief Tipton loved to do was to fish. I probable found
more pictures of Chief Tipton and fish, then any other pictures.
